Wooden Sword Workshop
9:30am | 11:00am | 1:00pm | 2:30pm
Friday 14 July | Saturday 16 July | Sunday 17 July
The cost for a workshop with Tim is $30 per person.
An additional cost is payable on the day for the bare wooden tool. Tools can range from $5 per item - $100 per item, depending on size.
Tim’s workshop begins with choosing your individual wooden adventure tool (your choice of a sword, axe, shield or hobby horse) from a range of various sizes and shapes. Price depends on the size. From there, you will learn to sand your toy while discovering what wood it is and what tree it’s from.
While this is happening, you will be thinking of a name for your tool, which you will then stamp into the tool using mallets and letter stamps. Tim will then fire-brand your tool with his maker’s mark, before scorching your sword to give it depth and dimension.
From here, your tool can be further personalised by adding gemstones, leather binding on the handles, and finishing it off with linseed oil for protection. The whole process takes approx. 1 hour. This workshop is suitable for all ages.
Tim’s workshops are designed to be hands-on experiences, learning from a master craftsman, in a fun and creative atmosphere that celebrates that art of lost trades and artisan workmanship.
Tim Schloss is a furniture maker by trade and has been creating heirloom toys for almost 20 years. He and his family travel throughout Australia exhibiting Tim’s craft and conducting these workshops at Lost Trades and Medieval Fairs.
